MuPIF is a multi-physics integration tools that faciliates the implementation of multi-physics and multi-level simulations assembled from independently developed applications (Patzak et al. , 2012). Such independently developed appli´ cations might be a finite element code and a discrete element code. In this contribution, the design of integration of discrete element method (DEM) into existing continuous based (e.g. FEM) MuPIF components is presented.
