Effect of protecting screen on the flow in control valves

The standard type of control valves used by steam turbines is described here. The pressure loss in a valve including a different choking rate on a screen is evaluated. Results from 3D numerical simulations and experimental investigation are presented here. The effect of the screen application, various forms of inlet chambers and inlet swirl of the flow on the losses is tested. The flow distribution in a valve with and without the screen is presented.
